Save "Like It Is" with Gil Noble

(The Tri State "Like It Is" Support Coalition, Dec. 13, 2004) For the past couple of years, WABC-TV in NY City has been trying to phase out "Like It Is", a public affairs program dealing with socio-political issues affecting Black America. First, they tried to cancel the show, but the public would not allow it. Now they have cut it from an hour to a half-hour.

This is an outrage! Whereas before WABC-TV allotted a meager 1 hour out of 168 hours of weekly broadcasting for serious issues facing African Americans, they have now cut that time to 30 minutes a week. "Like It Is" is a national treasure! As the host and producer of "Like It Is" Gil Noble has won many awards, including seven Emmys for his excellence in journalism, 7 Honorary Doctorates and over 650 community awards.

As a Black public affairs program, his show has produced the largest body of programs and documentaries on African Americans in the nation. Over the past 30 years he has interviewed many of the world's prominent figures including:

Some of the documentaries among the "Like It Is" archives include W.E.B DuBois, Malcolm X, Paul Robeson, Fannie Lou Hamer, Jack Johnson, and, The African Burial Ground.

Furthermore, "Like It Is" is the only Black-produced show at WABC-TV and, sadly, is only seen in the NY-Metropolitan area.

THIS SHOW SHOULD BE SEEN NATIONALLY! It is time that WABC-TV give Like It Is and the Black community the prominence we deserve!

DEMAND THAT THE SHOW BE IMMEDIATELY
RETURNED TO AN HOUR AND THAT IT BE SEEN NATIONALLY
